Creatine: why daily use pays off

Creatine is one of the most researched dietary supplements in the world. Although it is primarily known within the fitness world, the benefits can extend far beyond just muscle building.

Creatine helps the body produce ATP more quickly, the main energy source for short, explosive efforts. This allows you to deliver more power, train more intensely, and recover better. Research shows that creatine supplementation can improve performance in short, intense efforts and can contribute to increased strength and muscle mass in combination with strength training.

    Why take it every day?

Creatine works by saturating the creatine stores in your muscles. Therefore, daily intake is more important than the exact timing of when you take it. Even on rest days, a daily dose helps to maintain these stores. HSN refers to research indicating that about 3 to 5 grams per day is sufficient for most people.

    What does the science say?

Some key studies cited by HSN:

    • The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) states that creatine is one of the safest and most effective supplements for sports performance.
    • A meta-analysis by Lanhers et al. (2017) concluded that creatine significantly supports strength development.
    • The review of Cooper et al. (2012) confirmed positive effects on strength, muscle mass and training performance.
    • Research also shows that daily creatine intake can support muscle strength in adults over 55 years old.

    Is creatine safe?

Yes. Decades of research show that creatine is safe for healthy adults when used according to the recommended dosage. Common myths about kidney problems, dehydration, or mandatory "cycles" are not supported by current scientific literature.

    Conclusion

With just 3 to 5 grams of creatine per day, you can support your strength, performance, and recovery. The biggest key to success is not when you take it, but that you use it consistently every day.
